2. The Young Linebacker Group Can’t Live Up To High Draft Billing
The Ravens have to be the on-paper champions of Super Bowl 55. In regards to both the overall completeness of their roster, and overall talent level, there might not be a team that comes close to matching the team that Baltimore will be rolling out in 2020.
With a glaring exception, of course, at linebacker (and receiver, as covered earlier). The Ravens were already weak in regards to their linebacker group through 2019, but with both Patrick Onwuasor and Josh Bynes having new homes for 2020, the group just lost a ton of experience.
The optimistic side of this would be that they’re replacing experience with potential, bringing in two new linebackers to potentially take Onwuasor and Bynes’ places in rookies Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison. But for as good as Queen and Harrison were in college– there’s never a guarantee that their performance will translate to the next level.
If Queen and Harrison struggle to adjust to the pro level, even for a year, there’s bound to be two glaring holes right in the middle of an otherwise picture-perfect defensive lineup. The rest of Baltimore’s talent might be able to mask the potentially poor play of their two rookies, but not having high-quality play across the board might hurt the entire defensive unit.
