The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning on meeting with quarterback Russell Wilson in the coming days, according to Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Wilson is still technically under contract with the Denver Broncos, but the Broncos will be releasing him before the new league year begins on March 13 and have already given him permission to speak with other teams.

The fact that the Steelers are jumping at the opportunity to speak with Wilson is not surprising, as they have long been speculated as the top potential destination for the veteran.

Wilson’s stay in Denver did not exactly go according to plan.

The Broncos initially acquired Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks back in March 2022 and expected him to transform the franchise.

Instead, Wilson endured the worst season of his career in his debut campaign in the Mile High City, throwing 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

This past year, Wilson actually played some solid football, throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight picks while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.

However, it was clear that Wilson did not see eye to eye with head coach Sean Payton, and the Broncos ended up benching the nine-time Pro Bowler with two weeks remaining in the regular season after he declined to defer his injury guarantee.

The good news for Wilson is that he is still due $39 million in guaranteed money from Denver next season regardless of where he plays, so he can actually sign somewhere for the veteran’s minimum and still make in the neighborhood of $40 million in 2024.

We’ll see if Russell Wilson can come to terms with the Steelers.
