REPORT: Vikings RB Dalvin Cook set to hold out for contract extension

The Minnesota Vikings are considered by many to be a sleeper team to watch heading into the upcoming 2020 NFL season. Unfortunately, they now have a new issues that they will need to take care of in order to be that kind of team.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, star running back Dalvin Cook will hold out until he receives a contract extension from the Vikings.

This isn’t surprising news after reports came out early in the offseason that Cook wanted a new deal. Minnesota has had talks with their workhorse running back, but nothing has come to fruition.

Last season, Cook became one of the league’s elite running backs. He carried the football 250 times for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cook also racked up 53 receptions for 519 yards for the Vikings.

At 24 years old, this move makes sense for the former Florida State stud. He wants to get paid and he wants to get paid before another injury could deflate his value.

If the Vikings want to have him on the field this season, they need to pony up the money for a new extension. He is more than worthy of it and seems steadfast in his decision to hold out. Minnesota has some work to do prior to the start of the year.

Expect to hear more about this situation in the coming days and weeks. The Vikings and Cook will likely sit down and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new deal get worked out in the near future.
