The Buffalo Bills came into the 2022 NFL offseason with one of the best rosters in the NFL. They fell just short of defeating the Kansas City Chiefs during the Divisional Round of the playoffs and are a team built to succeed for a long time.
However, not one to rest on their laurels, the Bills didn’t just sit by idly in free agency. They went out and upgraded the roster in a major way despite not having many flaws on the team.
Buffalo pulled off one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, landing star EDGE defender, Von Miller. Miller was reportedly torn between remaining with the Los Angeles Rams, but eventually, the Bills won out and landed one of the best players in this year’s free-agent class.
The contract that the two sides agreed to was an eye-popping one. Miller agreed to a six-year, $120 million deal. It includes an $18.525 million signing bonus with $51.435 million guaranteed. The contract could turn into a three-year pact, as there is an out for Buffalo following the 2024 season in which they could save nearly $14 million releasing Miller.
But, that is a far way off into the future. For now, Buffalo added an impact player to their defense that will make them an even tougher team to defeat week in and week out. Richard Sherman recently touched on the signing, saying the rich got richer.
Buffalo racked up 42 sacks last season, which was one short of landing in the top-10 in the league in 2021. They were 14th in rushing yards allowed, which is slightly above average. Miller will improve in both areas as he is not only an excellent edge rusher getting after the quarterback, he can set the edge in the run game as well.
Gregory Rousseau should benefit a lot from having Miller on the roster. He is immensely talented, oozing with potential, and will now get to learn from one of the best in the league. Buffalo has other young defensive players in Ed Oliver and A.J. Epenesa will also benefit from playing alongside Miller, who will attract a lot of attention, creating advantageous situations for his teammates to take advantage of.
