The Chicago Bears and quarterback Justin Fields had high expectations for the 2023 season. Although there is still time for Chicago to turn things around, the Bears have struggled mightily through the first two weeks of the campaign.

Former Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on the Bears, per Alek Arend of Athlon Sports.

“In order to have a disaster of a football team, there have to be a lot of things going wrong, not just one thing. But it differently starts with Justin Fields,” Gronkowski said while speaking on Up & Adams. “I feel like the speed of the NFL has not slowed down for Justin Fields and on top of that, he’s not getting any help in the way that he needs.

“Overall, though, it starts with Justin Fields. He needs to be better especially when the pocket collapses.”

The Bears are 0-2 overall. Justin Fields has displayed flashes of stardom, but everything has yet to come together for the 24-year-old QB. He’s thrown for 427 yards and two touchdowns through two games, but has been picked off three times. Fields has also rushed for 62 yards and a TD, but has recorded three fumbles.

Blaming the Bears’ underperformance on Justin Fields isn’t fair though. Chicago has dealt with drama and struggles throughout the roster. The Bears need everyone to step up around him.

Chicago will have a difficult time getting back on track in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but their schedule gets much easier for a few weeks after the Chiefs contest. The Bears will battle the Denver Broncos in Week 4, Washington Commanders in Week 5, Minnesota Vikings in Week 6, and Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.

Turning the season around isn’t out of the question, but Chicago must figure things out soon. Otherwise, it will be too late.
