RUMOR: Could the Vikings be planning for a Carson Wentz trade?

The Minnesota Vikings are happy with Kirk Cousins at the quarterback position and could have him for the foreseeable future. Some believe that Cousins could end up leaving in the future, which could open the door for a need at the position. Carson Wentz could be a name for the team to keep an eye on.

Chris Schad of ZoneCoverage.com boldly stated that the Vikings will end up trading for Wentz in the future. It is a bold prediction, but one that would make a lot of sense for both parties involved.

Here is some of the reasoning behind the idea of Wentz being acquired by the Vikings.

Whomever is running the Vikings needs to pound their fist on the table and get a guy they like if Cousins doesn’t work out in the next couple of years. Next year’s draft will be a prime opportunity with a strong quarterback class that should include Ohio State’s Justin Fields and another fellow Bison star in Trey Lance. By signing Wentz, the Vikings would just stay at the status quo, which, in nearly 50 years since Fran Tarkenton hung up his cleats, just hasn’t been the answer.

Wentz has played at an MVP level at times throughout his career with the Eagles. Last season, he put together another big year before going down with an injury in the team’s Wild Card matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Vikings would be getting a legitimate star with a move to acquire Wentz. It wouldn’t come cheap, but it would absolutely keep them in contention if they were to move on or lose Cousins.

During the 2019 season with the Eagles, Wentz ended up completing 63.9 percent of his pass attempts for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

It will be interesting to see what the Vikings end up doing in the future. Cousins may end up sticking around for quite a few more years. However, if they part ways with him, Wentz would be a great fallback option.

As for the Eagles, trading Wentz makes a lot more sense after the selection of Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. That could be a tell that Philadelphia is already planning for their future after Wentz.

Expect to hear a lot about the Cousins situation in Minnesota in coming weeks. Carson Wentz could be waiting in the wings if Cousins doesn’t take the Vikings to the next level.
