San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey failed to score a touchdown during his team’s blowout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon, snapping a streak of 17 straight games where he reached the end zone.
That streak was tied for the longest in NFL history, so McCaffrey came just one contest shy of vaulting himself into sole possession of first place for that distinction.
However, McCaffrey was not bothered at all after the game and chose to joke about his donut in the touchdown column.
“Yeah, I suck,” McCaffrey said (via the OurSF49ers X account). “Everyone else on the team scored. Except for me.”
McCaffrey still had a productive day, carrying the ball 16 times for 95 yards while logging six catches for 47 yards in the 49ers’ much-needed 34-3 victory.
The 27-year-old currently leads the league in rushing yards (747) while scoring nine touchdowns and averaging 4.9 yards per carry on the ground. In addition, he has caught 38 passes for 339 yards and four scores.
McCaffrey, who played his collegiate football at Stanford, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers with the eighth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent the first five-and-a-half years of his career with the Panthers, establishing himself as one of the best all-purpose backs in football.
His best season in Carolina came in 2019, when he racked up 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rusher while also hauling in 116 receptions for 1,005 yards and four scores.
Injuries limited him to just 10 games between 2020 and 2021, and midway through 2022, the Panthers traded him to San Francisco.
Christian McCaffrey totaled 1,139 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground between Carolina and the Niners last season, also amassing 85 catches for 741 yards and five scores.
The 49ers are 6-3 and will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.
