San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is being reunited with one of his old college teammates, as the 49ers acquired edge rusher Chase Young in a deadline trade with the Washington Commanders last week.

The 49ers had a Week 9 bye, so Bosa was not able to get back on the field with Young last weekend, but the pair will be back in action together just like their old Ohio State days this Sunday when San Francisco takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, Bosa and Young were able to get some reps with one another in practice this week, and Bosa expressed his thoughts on the new Niners pass rusher.

“Monday was our only practice so far, so I was just telling him what I saw every play,” Bosa said, via David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone.

As for what Young will bring to the team, Bosa went into detail.

“Speed off the edge, good length, playmaking ability, everything that he is as a player,” he said. “I think people forget when you get injured, but he’s really young, and he’s got a long career ahead, and I think we’re lucky to have him.”

Bosa added that the 49ers feel a sense of urgency heading into Week 10, as the club has lost three games in a row to fall out of sole possession of first place in the NFC West.

“Yeah, definitely,” Bosa said. “I mean, it’s every week, but we need to get back on track. We need to string together a win, one win, and we’re not looking ahead. But, yeah, we definitely want to put a good showing out there.”

San Francisco sent a third-round draft pick to the Commanders in exchange for Chase Young, who has logged 15 tackles and five sacks in seven games this season.

The 24-year-old was the No. 2 overall pick back in 2020. Meanwhile, Nick Bosa was the second overall pick the preceding year. He has totaled just three sacks thus far in 2023 after leading the NFL with 18.5 sacks last season.
