San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel returned to practice on Monday, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Samuel has been sidelined for the 49ers’ last two games after suffering a shoulder fracture on the first play of his team’s Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
The 27-year-old said last week that he expects to be on the field when San Francisco takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10, and if this most recent report is any indication, it seems like he is on track to do just that. The Niners had a bye in Week 9.
In six games this season, Samuel has logged 20 catches for 302 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers have clearly missed Samuel’s presence, as they ended up losing to the Browns and have gone on a three-game losing streak overall in his absence. The club has posted 17 points in each of its last three games as its offense has struggled to produce.
Samuel, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was selected by San Francisco in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He had a strong rookie campaign, playing in 15 games and catching 57 passes for 802 yards and three scores. The following year, injuries limited Samuel to just seven contests, and during that span, he snared 33 balls for 391 yards and a score.
Samuel then proceeded to break out in 2021, hauling in 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
The Inman, S.C. native took a rather big step back last season, finishing with 56 catches for 632 yards while reaching the end zone twice.
Deebo Samuel has had a rather strange career trajectory, but there is no doubting his importance to the 49ers’ offense.
San Francisco is 5-3 on the year.
