Davante Adams finds himself in an interesting situation with the Las Vegas Raiders. A trade seems likely to be on the horizon. Could the San Francisco 49ers put their names in the trade sweepstakes?
The star wide receiver is in the middle of his second season with the Raiders, and things are not exactly going the way he initially hoped.
Adams, who spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, was sent to Las Vegas in a blockbuster trade back in March 2022. Adams was expected to take the Raiders to the next level, but that has not happened.
Las Vegas went just 6-11 in Adams’ debut season with the club, and so far this year, the Raiders have gone just 1-2.
Following his team’s ugly Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adams expressed his displeasure, criticizing Las Vegas’ organizational culture and stating that he did not have time to just wait around.
Adams’ apparent discontent has led some to believe that the 30-year-old could ultimately request to be moved between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
Should Adams ask the Raiders for a trade, could the 49ers step in and try to make something happen?
Matt Lombardo of Fan Buzz speculates that the 49ers could be a potential destination for Adams, citing that general manager John Lynch swung a trade with the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey last year.
San Francisco could send a 2024 first-round draft pick and a third-rounder to Las Vegas in exchange for the six-time Pro Bowler, providing the Raiders with some terrific draft capital. Meanwhile, the Niners would bring in an elite wide out to potentially elevate them to Super Bowl status.
Of course, this is all just conjecture at this stage. Davante Adams is under contract through 2026, so the Raiders don’t have to be in any rush to trade him. It also seems relatively hard to fathom Adams asking to be dealt midseason, but stranger things have happened.
