What to Expect from D.K. Metcalf in 2020
There may not be too much of a change in D.K. Metcalf’s role in the Seahawks’ offense next season. He was already a starter in all but one of the team’s regular season performance. Despite that possibility, the production he posted in the playoffs suggests he can raise his game within his role.
ESPN recently released their league-wide projections for every offensive player for the upcoming season. He is projected to receive 100 targets resulting in 61 receptions, 874 yards, and seven touchdowns.
It was interesting to see ESPN anticipate Metcalf to have nearly nearly identical production next season as he did during his rookie year. That may be the result of the Seahawks adding more talent and not needing to target him more in the passing game.
Considering the fact that Greg Olsen is in the final stage of his career, it seems unlikely he’d take away from expanded opportunities for Metcalf. Additionally, Phillip Dorsett doesn’t appear primed to have too expansive of a place in the Seahawks’ offense either.
The bottom line is that it’s difficult to envision Metcalf not managing to improve his impact within the same volume of opportunities he had last season, if that ends up being what his role. That alone should translate to greater totals in receiving yards and possibly touchdowns, too.
