The Seattle Seahawks were one of the franchises that benefited greatly from the NFL’s salary cap increasing yet again in 2024. They are now projected to be cap-compliant after restructuring the contract of quarterback Geno Smith, who had some of his money converted to a signing bonus, saving money against the 2024 cap in the process.

Alas, they are only projected to be about $12.6 million under the salary cap. While that is better than being over the cap, the Seahawks don’t have much room to add players to the roster with that amount of money.

As a result, expect them to continue making some adjustments when it comes to their roster. Players can be released or have their contracts restructured so that the team will have more money to spend this offseason.

NFL News & Rumors: Quandre Diggs & Seattle Seahawks Updates

Who could be on the move? One player to keep an eye on is veteran safety Quandre Diggs. In the opinion of Mike Okada of NFL.com, Diggs is one of the players who could be a cap casualty in the coming days and weeks.

“After three straight Pro Bowl seasons from 2020 through 2022, Diggs had an uncharacteristically down year in 2023, finding just one interception on a disappointing Seahawks defense. Even though nearly half of Diggs’ $21.3 million cap hit (third-highest at the position) is dead money, the $11 million in savings Seattle would get by cutting him could be enough to part ways,” Okada wrote.

If Okada is onto something and Diggs is on the chopping block, it could signal a massive overhaul coming in the secondary. Fellow safety Jamal Adams is expected to be moved on from as well, signaling a major change of the guard as the last line of defense for the Seahawks.

NFL News & Rumors: Quandre Diggs & Seattle Seahawks Updates

Diggs has been excellent for the Seahawks since he was acquired from the Detroit Lions in a trade in 2019. He has been dependable, not missing a single game in the last four seasons and producing at a high level.

Moving on from him would certainly be a surprise in the opinion of some, but with a new coaching staff in place, anything is possible. Also, the money the team could save is tough to turn down. Based on the production Diggs provided to the Seahawks last season, they could find that at a fraction of the cost while addressing other needs on the roster.
