The Seattle Seahawks may find themselves contemplating the addition of a dual-threat quarterback to their roster.
In a recent piece by Brent Sobleski for Bleacher Report, the notion of the Seahawks exploring a trade for Chicago Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields is brought to the forefront.
Despite Geno Smith currently holding the reins as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback, Sobleski highlights the team’s lukewarm performance with Smith at the helm over the past couple of seasons.
While acquiring Fields might necessitate some strategic maneuvering to assemble the requisite assets for a trade, Sobleski advocates for the Seahawks to seriously weigh this possibility. Fields has emerged as a prominent figure in the trade talks leading up to the 2024 NFL draft.
Speculation is rife due to the Bears’ possession of the top draft pick, potentially leading to the selection of USC QB Caleb Williams and subsequently making Fields available for trade. Alternatively, the Bears could opt to retain Fields and bolster their roster with a wide receiver or offensive lineman.
Despite Fields’ impressive conclusion to the 2023 season, marked by a 4-2 record in his last six starts and notable statistical contributions, his future with the Bears remains uncertain. With seven touchdowns, three interceptions, and 316 rushing yards during this period, Fields has showcased his dual-threat capabilities.
For the Seahawks, pursuing Fields would represent a significant move, likely involving the relinquishment of valuable draft assets. However, if Seattle believes that Fields possesses the potential to elevate their performance, particularly considering the existing receiving talent in DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon-Smith Njigba, such a move could propel them to new heights.
