The New England Patriots face a crucial decision this offseason, particularly concerning their quarterback situation. It’s widely expected that they will use their third-overall pick to select a new QB, which could potentially lead to a trade involving Mac Jones. A team like the Seattle Seahawks could make sense.

Since being drafted in the first round in 2021, Jones hasn’t quite met the lofty expectations set after an impressive rookie season. The subsequent years have seen the Patriots’ offense struggle, indicating a possible end to Jones’ time in New England. Nonetheless, despite his underwhelming performance, the 25-year-old may find interest from multiple teams in the market.

One unexpected suitor for Jones is the Seattle Seahawks, as suggested by Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal.

Bedard notes that Seahawks’ general manager John Schneider held a favorable opinion of Jones during his college days, making Seattle a plausible destination given their uncertain quarterback situation.

“I think John Schneider is a guy who looks back at his college evaluations of players. I think that he liked Mac Jones coming out. I think a lot of people are wondering what exactly happened to him here, and they’re probably doing due diligence with the Patriots on that.”

The fit between Jones and the Seahawks appears logical for both parties. With the recent departure of longtime head coach Pete Carroll and the team transitioning into a rebuild under Mike MacDonald, the Seahawks find themselves with 33-year-old Geno Smith as a temporary quarterback solution.

While Smith has shown capability, he’s unlikely to be the long-term answer. Introducing a young, talented QB like Mac Jones to compete with Smith could offer Seattle valuable options for the future.
