When the Seattle Seahawks traded for pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney prior to the start of 2019, they expected a little bit more than what they ended up getting.
Clowney finished his 2019 campaign with just three sacks and 13 hits on the quarterback, his worst output since his rookie season. There are a few factors that could have played into his down season, but with his pending free agency on the horizon, he didn’t do himself any favors with his lack luster production in 2019.
Still, Clowney projects to be the most sought after edge rusher in this year’s free agency pool, meaning he’ll likely get the most money as well. After having such a disappointing season, the Seahawks may not be inclined to hand Clowney whatever he wants once free agency rolls around.
They could choose to go in a different direction and pursue one of the more under-the-radar pass rushers. That’s where Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. comes in.
He could be a great consolation prize if Clowney leaves town.
