Baker Mayfield just enjoyed arguably the best season of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but whether or not he will remain with the team in 2024 is up for debate.

Mayfield is slated to hit free agency this March, and he will certainly be one of the top players available on the open market.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles spoke about Mayfield’s status this week, and he was pretty diplomatic when discussing the quarterback’s future in Tampa Bay.

“I’m pretty sure he’d be in demand,” Bowles said, via the Bucs’ official team website. “I don’t know to what aspect he would be in demand. Obviously, money plays a lot of part of free agency and loyalty plays a lot of part in free agency, and who actually wants you and where you can go and what you can afford plays a lot, and how you see yourself in certain systems.”

Mayfield threw for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 64.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 94.6 this season. He led the Buccaneers to an NFC South division title and then proceeded to go 22-for-36 with 337 yards and three touchdowns in the club’s Wild Card Round win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tampa Bay would ultimately fall to the Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round.

“It’ll be a tricky thing,” added Bowles. “He was great here, we love him to death. Hopefully it works out for us.”

Spotrac is projecting Mayfield to land a contract in the neighborhood of four years and $108.51 million. Luckily for Tampa Bay, the franchise is headed into the offseason with decent cap space, so it should be able to afford to retain him.

Baker Mayfield has played for four teams in his NFL career and is most known for his four-year stint with the Cleveland Browns at the start of his professional tenure.
