Texans Named Best Fit For This Wide Receiver In 2023 NFL Draft

The Houston Texans have a long road ahead of them when it comes to their rebuild. However, the first step in that process was finding a brain trust that could get on the same page and Houston seems to have that with general manager Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Next on that to-do list is finding a franchise quarterback. The Texans are hopeful that will come to fruition with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They will get one of the top two quarterbacks in this year’s class and hope that they develop into someone that the team can rely on for years to come.

Building up the roster around whoever they select second overall will take some time. There are a lot of weaknesses, evident by the fact that the Texans went 3-13-1 last season. But, with double-digit picks in the draft, they should be able to address a few needs.

The offensive line looks solid with Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard as bookends at tackle and Shaq Mason acquired to upgrade the interior. That is a good first step, but if they want to see their young quarterback succeed early on, upgrading the weapons around him is a must.

Houston traded Brandin Cooks to the Dallas Cowboys but added some talent in free agency. They signed veteran wide receivers Robert Woods and Noah Brown, tight end Dalton Schultz and running back Devin Singletary, so they have NFL-caliber players at the skill positions. But, long-term building blocks are still needed.

Expect the Texans to add a few offensive weapons to the roster in the draft. One player to keep an eye on is Marvin Mims out of Oklahoma, as Houston was named the best fit for him in the draft.

Mims has the skill set to play both on the boundary and out of the slot. He ran a simplified route tree with the Sooners but has the tools to expand upon that at the next level, possessing some blazing 4.38 speed.

With Woods and Nico Collins atop the depth chart, Mims would be a solid complementary player as the No. 3 option. He is a legitimate deep threat, averaging 20.1 yards per reception last season, which was third in the nation.

Mims would fill an immediate need on the roster as the Texans are lacking anyone that can get over the top of the defense consistently, especially without the speedy Cooks in the mix. The No. 65 overall pick, which is the second pick of the third round, could be where the Texans target him.
