Titans’ Will Levis Sounds Off On Team’s Aggressive Offseason

The Tennessee Titans were one of the most aggressive teams in NFL free agency this offseason, and quarterback Will Levis is appreciative of the effort.

When asked about the significance of the Titans’ approach, Levis said it was a clear indication that Tennessee is serious about winning right now.

“For one, it means that they’re not afraid to make those investments and they want to go win, which is awesome to see,” Levis said, via Teresa M. Walker of The Associated Press.

Tennessee really focused on the offensive side of the ball in free agency, signing wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd, running back Tony Pollard and center Lloyd Cushenberry. All of those moves should absolutely benefit Levis as he heads into his second season.

But the Titans didn’t stop there.

They also made moves to bolster their defense, particularly in the secondary. Not only did they sign cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, but they swung a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire top-flight corner L’Jarius Sneed.

“It’s going to be great for all of us and just great to have that environment of competitiveness, and everyone’s going to get better because of it,” added Levis.

Of course, the biggest question for Tennessee is probably Levis himself.

The Titans took Levis with the 33rd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. He began last season backing up Ryan Tannehill, but ended up usurping him as the starter midseason when it became clear that Tannehill was no longer a starting-caliber quarterback.

In nine starts, Levis threw for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 58.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.2.

While those aren’t fantastic numbers, it’s important to note that Tennessee’s offense was fairly short on weapons outside of DeAndre Hopkins this past year. The team has definitely made a concerted effort to supply Levis with some pieces over the last couple of months, and now, the Titans suddenly have a formidable receiving trio of Hopkins, Ridley and Boyd.

It remains to be seen if Levis is actually the answer for Tennessee long term, but he absolutely deserves a chance to prove that he can be the Titans’ franchise quarterback. Especially now that he actually has some help on the offensive side of the ball (plus an improved defense).

Tennessee went 6-11 in 2023 and has missed the playoffs each of the last two years after qualifying for three straight seasons between 2019 and 2021. That included a pair of AFC South division titles.

We’ll see if Will Levis can bring the Titans back to prominence in 2024.
