Over the last few months, a lot of reports have come out about the Minnesota Vikings and Justin Jefferson. A new deal still hasn’t gotten done between the two sides, but it seems likely that one will happen. Despite that fact, it doesn’t help fans in Minnesota feel any easier until the deal is done.

Jefferson is arguably the best wide receiver in the entire NFL. Granted, he missed a lot of time last season, but when he’s on the field, he’s nearly unstoppable for opposing defenses.

Just how good has he been throughout his young NFL career thus far? One statistic gives a good example of how good he has been.

As shared by NFL on CBS on X, formerly known as Twitter, Jefferson currently holds the all-time record for highest receiving yards per game. In second place is Calvin Johnson, aka Megatron, who is over 12 yards behind him.

What’s Next For Justin Jefferson And The Vikings?

Looking ahead to the 2024 NFL season, the Vikings are hoping to get back on track. After missing the playoffs last season, they moved on from quarterback Kirk Cousins and replaced him with both Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy. Jefferson had great chemistry with Cousins and will certainly miss him, but he did get a very talented young quarterback to grow with long-term.

During the 2023 season with the Vikings, Jefferson ended up catching 68 passes for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns. He put up that production in 10 games. Minnesota is hoping that he can stay fully healthy this season.

At 24 years of age, Jefferson has done the right thing by remaining patient in contract extension talks. He wants to know the direction of the team before inking a long-term deal. Does drafting McCarthy make Jefferson comfortable that the team can compete long-term? That remains to be seen.

The list shared by CBS Sports is a great example of just how dominant Jefferson has been throughout his NFL career. Being above Johnson, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and Tyreek Hill by so much show even more clearly how good he has been. It’s a surprising statistic, but at the same time he has been so consistently great that it’s not surprising at the same time.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see if the Vikings and Justin Jefferson can get a new deal done in the near future. If they can’t, next offseason could get interesting. However, we’re all just hoping that Jefferson can stay healthy during the 2024 season and get back to wowing everyone with his week in and week out elite and historical production.
