The Packers should pursue Gerald McCoy in free agency

McCoy Could Help An Already Potent Pass Rush

Secondly, and finally, the Packers boasted a lethal pass rush in 2019. Green Bay went out and spent big money on Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith last offseason. Both players stepped up and had career years.

McCoy may not be as good as he once was, but he has always been able to get to the quarterback. Put McCoy alongside Clark on the line and opposing offensive lines will have a nearly impossible task to stop them both. This move would make the Packers even more dangerous.

Pettine would have a field day with his game plans with a talent like McCoy added to the roster. Blitzing up the middle would become much easier than it has been in years past. This move makes too much sense if it could work out financially.

McCoy to the Packers may not end up happening, but it could be exactly what the defense needs to take the next step and remain consistent at the top of the defensive leaderboards all season long.
