Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs could end up on the trade block this offseason, and if he does, the New York Giants could be one of the most interested teams.
The Giants are in desperate need of a No. 1 receiver, something they have not had since Odell Beckham Jr. New York has some decent auxiliary pieces in its aerial attack, and Jalin Hyatt appears to have significant potential, but the team truly needs a proven commodity at the position.
That’s why Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton is suggesting that the Giants trade for Diggs, and he surmises that New York could send defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, a 2024 second-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder to the Bills in exchange for Diggs and a sixth-rounder.
Diggs is coming off of a strange season in Buffalo. He posted 100 receiving yards in five of his first six games, but then did not reach the 100-yard mark again the rest of the season.
This has fueled speculation that the Bills could trade Diggs this offseason, and the fact that Diggs was very diplomatic when recently asked about his future in Buffalo has only strengthened the trade rumors.
Moton notes that Giants head coach Brian Daboll has plenty of familiarity with Diggs, as he was the Bills’ offensive coordinator in Diggs’ first couple of seasons in Buffalo.
In the package, Buffalo would be landing a stud defensive tackle in Lawrence, who just made his second straight Pro Bowl while also earning his second consecutive Second-Team All-Pro selection.
Plus, the Bills would be getting a second-round pick that they could use to add another significant piece in what would be a soft reset for the club.
Buffalo has made the playoffs each of the last five years, but it has only made it to the AFC Championship Game once. Clearly, something needs to change, and trading Stefon Diggs may be one of the best ways to get such a change in motion.
