The Trade
Packers Receive: David Njoku
Browns Receive: 2021 Third-Round Pick
Let’s be honest, this trade should be a no-brainer for both parties involved. The Packers would be getting a huge upgrade at tight end and a guy that could work wonders playing alongside Aaron Rodgers. On the other side of things, the Browns would be getting a nice asset for a player that doesn’t want to be there.
Njoku suffered injury issues in 2019 and was unable to have the kind of breakout season that the Browns were expecting from him. He caught just five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in four games.
The Packers would be taking a bit of a risk due to the fact that Njoku is a relatively unknown talent. Standing in at 6-foot-4 and nearly 250 pounds with great athleticism for a tight end, Green Bay should still pull the trigger on a deal to acquire him.
Sternberger has potential and could end up being a very good player. However, the Packers love using tight ends with head coach Matt LaFleur’s system. Making a trade with the Browns for Njoku would give them much more talent at the position.
Even if the Packers want to play both Sternberger and Njoku at the same time, they would have the opportunity to do so. Both players are excellent pass-catchers and would give Rodgers even more weapons to work with.
For the Browns, getting a third-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft makes a ton of sense. They have Hooper, who is going to be extremely productive. They don’t need Njoku and he doesn’t want to be there.
Both teams would be getting pieces that will help them in the future. Green Bay gets a talented player at a needed position and the Browns move on from Njoku and get a good pick to compensate them. Make this move happen!
