Why The Trade Makes Sense For Both The Packers And Eagles
Quite simply, the Eagles cannot afford to be in financial trouble. Thankfully, moving DeSean Jackson would help clear some cash off of their books and they have the talent to move him without taking too big of a hit.
Should the Eagles trade Jackson to a team like the Packers, they would still have Alshon Jeffery, 2020 first-round pick Jalen Reagor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Greg Ward. All four of those guys are capable of playing big roles.
Green Bay would see their offense take a big step in the right direction with Jackson onboard. Aaron Rodgers needs more weapons and Jackson would fit right in. The Packers may not be interested in making a move for a wideout, but a guy like Jackson would have to intrigue Brian Gutekunst.
During the 2019 season with the Eagles, Jackson only ended up playing in three games due to injury issues. He caught nine passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson may not be the superstar that he once was, but he is still a quality impact player.
Now, with that being said, what would the Packers have to give up in order to get Jackson from the Eagles?
The Trade: Packers receive DeSean Jackson, Eagles receive 2021 third-round pick
Giving up a third-round pick is never an easy ask for any team, especially the Packers. However, it would be worth it for a proven wide receiver that would help the team win now. For the Eagles, they would be getting a valuable draft asset, cutting some money, and they would still have a talented receiving corps.
This move would be a perfect trade for both teams. The Packers and Eagles may never discuss this option, but it would absolutely make sense.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see how many trades are made ahead of the 2020 NFL season. It may be quiet, but following a strange offseason, things could get interesting.
