Veteran WR Is A Standout For Ravens This Offseason

There has been a lot of talk involving the Baltimore Ravens and the upgrades that they made at the wide receiver position. For essentially the first time in Lamar Jackson’s career, the front office made a concerted effort to bring in talent to elevate the passing game to another level.

Those additions are likely as big of a reason that Jackson agreed to a new contract with the team after reportedly seeking a trade earlier in the offseason. The move that garnered the most attention was the signing of Odell Beckham Jr. After missing the 2022 season, he is ready to get his career back on track.

In the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Ravens selected wide receiver Zay Flowers out of Boston College. That was the second time in three years Baltimore selected a pass catcher in the first round, joining 2021 first-round pick, Rashod Bateman.

While those moves have garnered all of the headlines, another addition at wide receiver went under the radar. The first move that the Ravens made at the position was signing Nelson Agholor, who spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots.

The 2015 first-round pick has struggled to find a consistent home, as the Ravens are the fourth team he will be on in five seasons. However, he is someone that has stood out thus far in offseason practices.

“He has been on point,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “He’s a talented guy. [He’s a] former first-round pick; he looks it — rangy, big catch radius.”

Agholor has always flashed some big play ability and that has been on display regularly in practice with the Ravens. He has made an excellent first impression with Jackson, who already has a nickname for the USC product, “Nelly”.

Right now, Agholor has put a stranglehold on the No. 4 wide receiver spot in the lineup. However, if he continues impressing as he has thus far, that role could quickly expand. The Ravens are expected to become more of an aerial team under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, which bodes well for Agholor’s outlook.
