Washington Huskies Get Big-Time News On QB In Transfer Portal

Will Rogers, Washington Huskies

In a recent development reported by ESPN, one of the prominent quarterbacks in the transfer portal has made a surprising decision to withdraw his name and remain with the Washington Huskies.

Will Rogers, formerly the starting quarterback for Mississippi State, initially opted to transfer to Washington following the conclusion of the Bulldogs’ 2023 season.

However, his situation took a turn when Washington’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, left the program just a few weeks later to take over the helm at Alabama, succeeding the legendary Nick Saban in the role.

This unexpected twist led Rogers to enter the transfer portal for the second time in a matter of weeks. Nevertheless, it appears that he was impressed by the Huskies’ choice to bring in former Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch, as he decided to remove his name from the portal on the latest occasion.

“Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers told ESPN he will withdraw from the NCAA transfer portal and remain at Washington to play for the Huskies in 2024. Rogers informed Washington head coach Jedd Fisch of his decision on Tuesday and has resumed classes.”

During his four seasons at Mississippi State, Rogers showcased his talent by amassing an impressive record of 12,315 passing yards and 94 touchdown throws. With this decision, he is set to take on the challenge of filling the shoes of Heisman Trophy finalist and national title runner-up, Michael Penix Jr.

This is great news for the Washington Huskies. They needed to keep Rogers at the quarterback position as they try to navigate Penix leaving for the NFL.

Losing Kalen DeBoer was a big blow as well, but the team should still be competitive next season.
