Will Rogers, Washington Huskies

In recent months, the talented quarterback, Will Rogers, has made some noteworthy moves within the NCAA transfer portal. His journey began when he decided to transfer from Mississippi State to the Washington Huskies in his quest for a fresh start.

However, the coaching landscape underwent a significant change when Washington’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, departed for Alabama.

In the wake of this development, Rogers re-entered the transfer portal, prompting uncertainty about his future.

Fortunately, an update on this situation emerged recently, thanks to Pete Nakos of On3. It has been reported that Will Rogers has made a decision – he will remain at Washington, opting to withdraw his name from the transfer portal.

This decision represents a significant victory for Washington’s head coach, Jedd Fish, as he can now confidently shape his offensive strategy around Rogers for the upcoming 2024 season.

Rogers has previously showcased his impressive skills under the guidance of the late Mike Leach’s system, amassing impressive statistics with 3,974 passing yards and 35 touchdowns during the 2022 season. However, his performance took a sharp downturn in 2023, recording only 1,625 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.

To be fair to Rogers, his struggles during the past season can be attributed in large part to his discomfort with the pro-style system implemented by Zach Arnett.

Should Rogers manage to recapture his 2022 form, he could prove to be a worthy successor to Michael Penix Jr. as Washington’s leading quarterback. This development sets the stage for an exciting season ahead, filled with potential and promise for both Will Rogers and the Washington Huskies.
