There may not be a more ruthless group of fans in the NFL than the ones who cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia fans are famous for throwing snowballs at Santa Claus, and now they will be remembered for throwing something else.

The second half of the 2023 regular season has not been an easy one for Eagles fans to stomach. At one point their team looked to be the cream of the crop in the NFC, owning a 10-1 record and finding ways to win despite less-than-ideal circumstances.

But, the wheels fell all the way off after Thanksgiving. A thrilling 37-34 overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills would be the last positive for the team in the season. After that, they lost three straight games, putting their NFC East title chances in jeopardy.

NFL News & Rumors: Nick Sirianni & Philadelphia Eagles Updates

A victory in Week 16 over the New York Giants on Christmas Day wasn’t their prettiest win, but it gave them a little hope. That hope was short-lived, as they lost to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17 before losing to the Giants in Week 18.

That sealed a Wild Card spot for the Eagles, sending them on the road to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the winners of the NFC South. Their performance in the Super Wild Card Weekend matchup was pitiful, as they lost 32-9.

That loss put some fans over the edge. While head coach Nick Sirianni was walking to the tunnel after the game, a fan threw a bucket of popcorn at him. The entire incident was caught on camera and shared on social media.

Sirianni should consider himself lucky the game was in Tampa Bay and not Philadelphia, as popcorn being thrown at him likely would have been the least of his worries. However, it was a despicable act by a fan, who should be embarrassed by such decorum.

NFL News & Rumors: Nick Sirianni & Philadelphia Eagles Updates

That could be the lasting image many people have of Sirianni as the Eagles head coach. There have been some rumors swirling that a poor performance in the Wild Card could result in the team firing him as head coach.

The seat is certainly getting hot for Sirianni, who led the team to a Super Bowl last season but looked in over his head the second half of this season. With things spiraling out of control, he was unable to reel things in as every button he pushed was wrong, resulting in an ugly end to their campaign.
