1. CB Tre Flowers
Flowers played safety in college at Oklahoma State, but his physical profile (6-foot-3, 202 pounds) fits what the Seahawks look for in cornerbacks, and he has been nearly a full-time player at that position over two seasons, playing 91 and 92 percent of the defensive snaps in his two seasons respectively.
Flowers had three interceptions, 82 total tackles, and eight pass breakups last regular season, as he limited opposing quarterbacks to a 72.5 passer rating. But a bad performance in the playoff loss to the Packers, as Davante Adams burned him for two scores, ended his season on a sour note. And more broadly, penalties were an issue for Flowers last season.
Flowers committed seven penalties during the regular season, and five were for pass interference. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll cited the need for Flowers to take the next step in Year 3, and expressed confidence it will happen.
“We’ve got to get better. Come back next year and capitalize on all of the experiences. Settle in,” coach Pete Carroll said when asked about Flowers’ development. “He’s going to continue to get better. He’s a really smart player, he’s tough as hell. He really competes and all that, he’ll make good progress I think from the year two to three.”
Flowers and Shaquill Griffin can already be considered one of the rising cornerback duos in the league. If Flowers can clean up his penalty issues, and there’s good reason to believe he will as he continues to develop, a new iteration of the “Legion of Boom” may be back in Seattle next season.
