1 Brutal Stat Casts Doubt On Chargers QB Justin Herbert

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been struggling over the past several weeks, most recently throwing a couple of interceptions (including a game-ending pick) in a 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The NFL on CBS posted a rather dubious stat for Herbert on its X account this week, finding that Herbert’s 28 career losses are the most of any active quarterback since he entered the league as a first-round draft pick in 2020.

Herbert is now 27-28 as a starter.

Through six games this season, the University of Oregon product has thrown for 1,592 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 67 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.1.

While those numbers look solid, they don’t fully tell the story of how much Herbert has labored over his last three games.

The 25-year-old has completed less than 60 percent of his passes in each of his past three contests, and all four of his picks on the season have come in those games. Also, Herbert has failed to reach 300 yards passing in Weeks 5 through 7 after achieving that mark twice over his first three games. That includes his 405-yard effort in a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 24.

Herbert is one of the best pure passers in the NFL when he is on his game, as evidenced by the fact that he racked up 5,014 yards during his second season and has already thrown 104 touchdown passes in 55 contests.

However, Herbert seems to have a penchant for throwing critical interceptions, as the Chiefs loss marked the second straight week that a Chargers loss has ended up a pick from their signal-caller.

Justin Herbert and the Bolts are 2-4 and will aim to get back on track when they take on the Chicago Bears next weekend.
