The New York Giants were defeated 30-12 by the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football to begin Week 3. New York fell to 1-2 with the loss, halting the momentum from their Week 2 come-from-behind victory against the Arizona Cardinals.

One glaring concern in the Giants-49ers affair was that wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who played a pivotal role in New York’s Week 2 win, didn’t see a single target versus San Francisco, per Tom Rock of Newsday Sports.

Hyatt finished Week 2 with only a pair of receptions. That said, he recorded an impressive 89 yards through the air. Hyatt averaged 44.5 yards per reception in the 31-28 win.

As for the Giants-49ers game, he played just 16 of 50 snaps. The fact that he didn’t even receive a target is shocking. New York wasn’t able to utilize their rushing game all that much with Saquon Barkley out. Nevertheless, the passing attack still failed to perform well. QB Daniel Jones went 22-32 through the air for 137 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

Darius Slayton led the Giants with three receptions and 32 yards. Overall, the passing game labored throughout the contest. Perhaps throwing the ball to Jalin Hyatt would have helped matters.

There is hope for Hyatt moving forward, however. Giants head coach Brian Daboll addressed Hyatt’s quiet Week 3 and the receiver’s expectations moving forward, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.

“There’s a plan for Jalin — a plan for all the guys — and based on personnel that we choose to use on a given play, it could be more, it could be about the same,” Daboll said. “So, we’ll keep on giving him reps, and hopefully we have more than [50] plays in a game. We put him in plays to try to target him.”

Hyatt should be more of a factor moving forward. It will be interesting to see how he fares in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks.
