1 Perfect Trade For Eagles To Acquire Derrick Henry

Derrick Henry could be playing out his final days as a member of the Tennessee Titans.

The star running back was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with the Titans prior to the season, meaning he will hit free agency during the offseason.

With Henry being 29 years old, it does not seem likely that Tennessee will choose to re-sign him, so it would make sense for the Titans to try and move him ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

It should be noted that Tennessee is currently 1-1 and is playing in the very winnable AFC South division, so the Titans probably aren’t going to make any rash decisions just yet. However, it seems pretty clear that Tennessee is not a Super Bowl contender by any means, so the wise thing for the club to do may ultimately be parting ways with Henry, who has been a fixture in the backfield since 2016.

Should the Titans choose to put Henry on the trade block, the Philadelphia Eagles could represent a prime destination for the veteran.

The Eagles opened the season with Kenneth Gainwell as the featured back, but Gainwell suffered a rib injury in Week 1. That opened the door for D’Andre Swift, who racked up 175 yards in a phenomenal Week 2 performance against the Minnesota Vikings.

Still, it seems hard to imagine that Philadelphia is comfortable relying on Swift as its No. 1 halfback the rest of the way, so Henry could certainly pique the team’s interest.

The Eagles could send a 2024 first-round draft pick plus a third-rounder to the Titans in exchange for Henry. This would be a heck of a return for Tennessee and would bolster Philly’s ground game in its quest to make it back to the Super Bowl.

Through two games this season, Derrick Henry has rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown while averaging 3.6 yards per carry.
