1 Perfect Trade Target For The Green Bay Packers After Week 2

A new dawn has surfaced in Green Bay, as the Packers have begun a season without Aaron Rodgers under center for the first time since 2007. At that point, Green Bay’s starting quarterback was Brett Favre.

Now, the Packers have kicked off the Jordan Love era, and early results have been mixed.

Green Bay has gone 1-1 through the first two weeks of 2023, and while Love has shown promise, he made a colossal blunder during the Packers’ Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, diving forward for a quarterback sneak before the ball was snapped on a fourth-down play late in the fourth quarter. The Packers ended up blowing a double-digit lead and losing, as a 2-0 mark slipped through their fingers.

Still, it’s hard to ignore the arm talent that Love displayed, as he tossed three touchdown passes in the loss. On the season overall, Love has thrown for 396 yards and a league-leading six touchdowns. Not only that, but he is pacing the NFL with a 118.7 passer rating. Yes, he has completed only 55.8 percent of his throws, but growing pains are to be expected for the 24-year-old.

It’s also very obvious that Love could use some help in the aerial attack.

While the Packers have put together a stable of young wide receivers with potential, Green Bay lacks a true No. 1 wide out at the moment. Luckily, the Packers have until the Oct. 31 trade deadline to acquire a big name at the position.

So why not pursue Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins?

Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer recently reported that contract extension talks between Higgins and the Bengals never got close, and with Higgins set to hit free agency this offseason, his future in Cincinnati is murky, to say the least.

The Bengals have started out the season 0-2, so things could go south for them pretty quickly. Given that they also have Ja’Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd in their receiving corps, Higgins could become expendable over the next several weeks.

While expectations were rather low for Green Bay going into 2023, the Packers are playing in a very winnable NFC North division, so it’s entirely possibly they attempt to make a run at things. That makes the prospect of pursuing Higgins fairly realistic.

Not only would Higgins help Green Bay this season, but he could also form a long-term tandem with Love (provided that the Packers re-sign Higgins).

Just 24 years old, Higgins has already stamped his name among the better receivers in the NFL, posting back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2021 and 2022.

The Clemson product was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and while he helped Cincy reach the Super Bowl in his sophomore campaign, his time with the team appears to be coming to a close.

Higgins could join a young core of Packers wide outs that includes Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed, and he would become the clear No. 1 receiver after sharing the spotlight with Chase in Cincinnati.
