The San Francisco 49ers have one of the deepest, most talented rosters in the NFL. They are loaded with All-Pros and Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball and remain one of the true Super Bowl contenders in the NFL heading into the 2023 season.

While the 49ers’ defense certainly didn’t look like it during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, they were the most dominant unit in the NFL last season. Their biggest weakness, which was on the interior of their defensive line, should be solved with the addition of Javon Hargrave.

Hargrave is a true game wrecker from the defensive tackle spot and will combine with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa to create one of the best tandems up front in the NFL. But, for how strong that duo is, they don’t have anything on what the 49ers boast at linebacker.

There, All-Pro Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw have turned into arguably the best linebacker tandem in the NFL. Just how good are those two? According to PFF, they are the only two linebackers in the NFL that have recorded grades of 80+ as run defenders and in pass coverage.

Those are elite numbers for Warner and Greenlaw, two of the best in the business at what they do. Greenlaw is coming off the best season of his young career as he had 127 total tackles in 2022 with six passes defended in 15 games. He has far exceeded all expectations after being a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Warner is coming off his second All-Pro and Pro Bowl season in 2022, registering at least 118 total tackles for the fifth straight season to start his career. He remains the leader on defense and sets the tone for the rest of his teammates to follow.

With some concerns about who will be under center once the regular season rolls around, as Brock Purdy continues to recover from his injury, Kyle Shanahan can at least rest easy knowing he has an elite defense to rely on. Warner and Greenlaw lead a unit that should be able to win plenty of games until the offense gets up to speed.
