The Saints May Need A Proven Successor For Drew Brees In 2021

Brees is close to retirement, and he has a broadcasting job awaiting him when he does call it a career. This might be his last season, so it’s truly Super Bowl or bust for the Saints.

The Saints have given themselves options for Brees’ successor. Taysom Hill might be the guy, but he’s more of gadget player right now with a lot to prove as traditional quarterback.

New Orleans took a flier on Jameis Winston in free agency this offseason. In the most ideal scenario for the Saints, he will show growth behind the scenes this season as Brees stays healthy all the way through. If he does get a chance to play, Winston will be in position to make the most of it in a great situation.

If Brees retires after this season, it’s hard to imagine Winston or Hill being clearly anointed as the next guy. That’s where an outside move would come into play, and Prescott would potentially enter the conversation if he’s freely available next March.
