3 Ideal Targets For The Packers With No. 22 Pick In The NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers had quite the adventurous offseason. After a full year of will or won’t he games from Aaron Rodgers, it turned out that he was not the superstar who would be leaving Green Bay. The team wound up trading up Davante Adams even after Rodgers committed to staying with the Packers.

So, the Packers now enter the 2022 season with the same quarterback, but a quest to find new pass catchers. They were able to acquire the 22nd overall pick from the Las Vegas Raiders in the Davante Adams trade.

Considering the loss of Adams, as well as Marquez Valdes-Scantling, you could see the Green Bay Packers use this pick on a wide receiver. However, with another first-round pick later in the draft, if the perfect wide receiver is not there for them, they could take the best player who fell to them and then replace Adams at pick 28.

With that in mind, who would be the most ideal targets for the Packers at pick 22?

3. Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

Aaron Rodgers has always been a quarterback that takes a bit of time to get on the same page with. He needs wide receivers to be precise, and he needs to trust that they will always be in the right spot at the right time. That makes it tough for a rookie to jump right in.

However, if someone were to be equipped from this class it could be Jahan Dotson. Dotson is a crisp and precise route runner. He is smooth in and out of his breaks, and while he is quick, that comes with patience and timing that could see him connect with Rodgers.

Poor quarterback play at Penn State saw Dotson stretch his catch radius, but that could turn into Rodgers putting the ball in spots where he knows only Dotson can get it. You saw how valuable it was for Rodgers to be on the same page with Adams and make passes to him before he is looking for them. That would be the type of connection they would hope to get from Dotson.

2. Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

Jameson Williams may be looked at as more of the Marquez Valdes-Scantling replacement, than the replacement for Davante Adams. Still, they need both, and while you would think that one is more valuable than the other, MVS left plenty of food on the table last season.

If MVS hauled in a few more passes, we are talking multiple 70-yard scores and game-changing moments. So, while Jameson Williams will not get peppered with targets, when he does get targeted, they could be the game-changers. MVS was a small-school wide out who fell into the 6th round for a reason. Williams is an elite athlete who played at Alabama and Ohio State.

His speed will leave all defensive backs nervous, and when you add that Rodgers can get him the ball anywhere on the field, he becomes a chess piece that opens up the middle for other weapons.

Williams would be a top 20 lock, but he tore his ACL and has not been cleared to run yet. Still, he is expected to be back for the 2022 season, and the Packers may be thinking that they got a top 10 pick and a game-changer who fell to them at the perfect time.

1. Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

If the Packers want to find the best replacement for Davante Adams, it would be Treylon Burks. Burks is not going to be the route runner that Dotson is and will not jump right in for Adams in that area. However, Burks is much bigger than Adams, and that raises his ceiling much higher and adds skill after the catch that Dotson does not have.

Burks was used in the screen game often, and that was a staple of the game Rodgers, and Adams had. Rodgers could look his way and throws a bullet that leads to a cheap five yards because Adams is so thick and tough to bring down. Burks can work in the same way and would excel at making life easier for Rodgers by grabbing yards after the catch that other wideouts cannot get.

Burks is not a polished outside receiver, but he can beat the press and can get down the field when needed. He has the starter kit needed to become a threat like Adams, and his ability to take a screen to the house as well as a bomb to the house is all that Rodgers needs to get him started next season.

If there is one wide receiver the Packers would love to see fall to pick 22, it is Treylon Burks.
