The Philadelphia Eagles are set to face off against the Minnesota Vikings tonight on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 2 NFL action. After defeating the New England Patriots in Week 1, the Eagles are looking to fine-tune some issues and continue ramping up for what they hope will be another Super Bowl run this year.

One thing that won’t need a ton of tuning is the defensive front for the Eagles. They are an elite group and showcased that in Week 1.

Next Gen Stats took to Twitter and shared three shocking statistics for the Eagles’ defense from last week’s game. Jalen Carter, Fletcher Cox, and Milton Williams were the three quickest defenders by interior pass-rush get-off for the week.

Everyone knew coming into the season that the Eagles’ pass-rush was going to be one of their strengths. Being able to snag Carter in the 2023 NFL Draft was a huge step in that direction. Very few players have the size and athleticism that Carter possesses.

Looking ahead to tonight’s matchup, the Eagles will once again need their pass-rush to get to work. Kirk Cousins and the Vikings are more than capable of exploding offensively. Covering Justin Jefferson is something that no defense can do consistently.

In order to slow down the Cousins to Jefferson connection, the Eagles’ defense will need to be disruptive at the line. That will all start with Carter and Cox especially.

Cousins has shown throughout his career that he will make mistakes under pressure. The Eagles have to focus on that area of the game as their main priority defensively. If they can get to the quarterback, good things will happen.

It will be interesting to see what the Eagles’ defensive approach is this evening. Carter and Cox will certainly be two big pieces in their plans.
