3 Insane Stats To Note For Eagles’ Darius Slay Through 9 Weeks

The Philadelphia Eagles have dominantly handled their business thus far this season as the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL. They are 8-0 heading into their Week 10 matchup with the Washington Commanders and it could be a while until they are considered underdogs in a game.

They are clicking in all phases of the game as the offense is second in points scored and third in yardage. Defensively they aren’t far behind as they are fourth in points for and third in yardage allowed. On that side of the ball, they have been particularly stingy against the pass.

Philadelphia has one of the best secondaries in the NFL led by Darius Slay. Slay was acquired from the Detroit Lions in 2020 as they were in need of a lockdown corner. He has provided the team with that level of production throughout his tenure in the City of Brotherly Love but has really picked things up in recent weeks.

Slay has been performing as arguably the best cornerback in the NFL since Week 6. According to PFF, in that time span, he has had 117 coverage snaps and has allowed only 15 yards. He has also added one interception and has a passer rating allowed of 10.7.

Those are truly eye-popping numbers as Slay is shutting down whatever side of the field or shadow assignment that he has. For the season, Slay has three interceptions with eight passes defended to go along with 25 total tackles. That is why the Eagles are so difficult to throw the ball against because they have a player just as good playing opposite of Slay in James Bradberry.

Bradberry was released by the New York Giants as a cap casualty this offseason and joined the rival Eagles. He is enjoying a bounce-back season after a difficult 2021 as he and Slay are feeding off of each other and shutting down opposing passing games.
