The Ravens Might Have a True WR1 in Marquise Brown, While the Browns Might Still Need One
Both Baltimore’s Marquise Brown and Cleveland’s Odell Beckham were standout players on Sunday— both for completely different reasons.
For Brown, he looks ready to take the league by storm with his performance against Cleveland. The Ravens didn’t do much this offseason by way of adding talent to the receiver room, but with Marquise Brown’s Week 1 showing, they might not have needed to.
Breaking 100-yards through the air, Brown was Lamar Jackson’s clear favorite target from the receiver group. And with clear improvements in his explosiveness and route running, the Brown-Jackson dynamic should only continue going forward.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin, Cleveland’s perceived number one receiver Odell Beckham struggled to do much of anything against the Ravens on Sunday.
Between dropped passes from Beckham and a clear lack of timing and chemistry between him and Baker Mayfield, that connection might not be nearly as effective as many imagined it would be when Beckham was brought in to Cleveland in 2019.
For right now, a clear advantage in the passing game to Lamar Jackson and Marquise Brown.
