One of the more clear needs the Vikings face heading into the NFL Draft is the wide receiver position. They already need more supporting cast help prior to trading Stefon Diggs. That move only intensifies that need and an option like K.J. Hamler out of Penn State makes sense.

Hamler recorded 56 receptions for 904 yards and 8 touchdowns during the 2019 season. Among his most notable achievements was successfully shaking the press coverage of top-ranked cornerback prospect Jeffrey Okudah during a matchup with Ohio State.

The frame of Hamler is interesting because he stands at only 5-feet, 9 inches with a weight of 178 pounds. While he may be relatively small, he does have 30 3/4″ arms and 9 3/8″ hand. In terms of the athletic testing results, he only participated in the bench press (15 reps) at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The thought regarding Hamler is that he can really help an offense with stretching the field from the slot. He is an electrifying playmaker with the ball in the open field and has incredible separation speed. There are some fundamental improvements to be made, but overall, he’s an exciting prospect.
