Derrick Brown falls to No. 10
With the way the NFL Draft plays out every year, there are times when a prospect unexpectedly falls a few spots lower than where they were originally projected to go. Holding the No. 10 puts the Browns in a prime position to capitalize on a potential situation of that nature.
Depending on what the Carolina Panthers decide to do at No. 7, that would could happen to former Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown. The expectation is that he will be their pick after signing Teddy Bridgewater in free agency but an offensive tackle could be in play, too.
With the Arizona Cardinals widely expected to select an offensive tackle, too. The decision to trade for DeAndre Hopkins eliminates the need for them to select a wide receiver since they already have previously invested in other receivers for Kyler Murray.
Where it gets even more interesting is with the Jaguars at No. 9. They could use a wide receiver and that would help the third ranked tackle in the class to be available for the Browns. Even another team trading up could make that work as well. However, an offensive tackle would be a logical for Jacksonville.
If the NFL Draft were to play out in a way that features the Panthers, Cardinals, and Jaguars all tacking an offensive tackle, the Browns would be left with the fourth ranked player at the position. The better option would be to take Derrick Brown in this scenario.
Having the option of forming a defensive line that pairs Brown with Myles Garrett would be quite intriguing. He’s considered by Lance Zierlein of NFL.com as having an ‘All-Pro ceiling and good starter floor’ with his ability to be disruptive in the running game and be a pressure rusher.
