3 Under The Radar Free Agent Targets For Cowboys To Consider

The Dallas Cowboys have some holes to patch this offseason, but it will be tricky given their tenuous salary cap situation.

The Cowboys are about $11 million over the cap heading into the offseason, so they will have to get creative and move some money around in order to open up room to sign free agents.

That also means Dallas may have to go bargain bin hunting this March.

So, here are three under the radar free-agent targets for the Cowboys to consider this spring.

Devin Singletary, RB

Dallas will be in some need of help in its rushing attack, so it will likely have to explore the free-agent market (or look in the NFL Draft for some depth pieces).

Devin Singletary could represent a very affordable option for the Cowboys and would provide them with some great bang for their buck.

Singletary has never rushed for 1,000 yards, but he has totaled over 800 in each of the last three seasons, and for the most part, he has been pretty efficient with a career average of 4.6 yards per carry.

The thing with Singletary is that he is not a featured back, but if Dallas brings him in as a part of a committee, it could end up paying dividends. That’s especially considering that the 26-year-old will likely come cheap (almost certainly cheaper than the team’s own Tony Pollard, who will also be a free agent).

Tyler Boyd, WR

There was a time when Tyler Boyd was a low-end No. 1 receiver when he posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019.

The past several years, he has fallen to third on the Cincinnati Bengals’ depth chart behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Yet, he has still managed to be very productive. This past season, he caught 67 passes for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and that was with instability at quarterback due to Joe Burrow’s injuries.

Boyd is still relatively young at 29 years old, and he could slot in behind CeeDee Lamb as a legitimate No. 2 receiver for Dak Prescott. He would certainly represent an upgrade over Brandin Cooks at this stage, and Michael Gallup appears to be a shell of himself after tearing his ACL a couple of years ago.

There will be plenty of good wide receivers available this offseason, but few have been as consistent as Boyd since he entered the NFL back in 2016.

Javon Kinlaw, DL

If there is one issue with the Cowboys’ defense, it’s their ability (or inability) to stop the run.

Dallas ranked just 16th in the NFL in stuffing the run this season, and it was gashed for 143 yards by Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers in its Wild Card Round playoff loss.

The Cowboys could use some more toughness up the middle, and San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw would provide that for them.

Kinlaw is behind Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave on the 49ers’ depth chart, so the chances of San Francisco re-signing him are slim.

Still, Kinlaw is great at defending the run, and he would unquestionably help Dallas’ interior defensive line. He even showed some pass-rushing ability this season, logging 3.5 sacks.
