Provide Versatility in a Supporting Role
The 49ers have embraced having a highly impactful front-seven in recent seasons by investing in it heavily. It’s no secret San Francisco has experienced some impressive results as a result of that strategy and that’s why they have looked to maintain it.
By adding Javon Kinlaw in the 2020 NFL Draft, the 49ers will be able to maintain their dynamic yet versatile impact on the defensive line. That is important considering they traded DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the offseason.
As ESPN’s Matt Bowen suggested, they will be able to use Kinlaw in interior one-on-one situations and use twists to attack mismatches. They will be able to get creative with how they use the rookie considering they already have high-level talent in so many spots.
Being able to use Kinlaw in a variety of different ways will help with getting him on the field as a rookie and that’s important for a No. 14 pick. It’s even better that he won’t be the focus of the opposition and can capitalize as a result.
