San Francisco 49ers: 5 Players Who Will Go to the Pro Bowl in 2018

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

Is there any other quarterback that’s being given as much media attention and hype during the 2018 offseason as Jimmy Garoppolo?

When looking back at his five-game stretch once being named the starter last season, it’s easy to see why. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s former backup fit into Kyle Shanahan’s system like a glove. Not only did he win all five of the games that he started, but he guided the offense to 28.8 points per game.

The stats don’t lie either:

  • Garoppolo averaged 260 passing yards per game. This average is more than guys like Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, and Russell Wilson to name a few.
  • He completed 67.4 percent of his passes (better than Brady and Rodgers).
  • He also averaged 8.8 yards per attempt, which is better than any other quarterback in the league in 2017.

He’s already being touted as the next elite quarterback. And with all of his play that he’s shown from last season, it’s easy to understand.

The 49ers starting quarterback is brimming with confidence. Even going as far as to say that he’s better than Brady, via Bleacher Report:

Even when I was a little kid, my brothers, whenever we would play, I would literally always think I was going to win. I wouldn’t, but I would always think that. It’s like when I go to New England, when I first got there, I thought in my head, ‘I’m better than this dude.’

Garoppolo has all of the eyes and attention on him. He understands the high expectations that come with this upcoming season. Expect big things from the 26 year old in 2018.
