Safety Jaquiski Tartt
Last season was safety Jaquiski Tartt’s breakout year. He not only showed improvement and excelled in defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s system, but has solidified his role as the starting strong safety.
Before suffering a broken forearm that placed him on injured reserve for the latter half of 2017, Tartt was already having his best year. As he filled in for defensive backs Jimmie Ward and Eric Reid to start the season, Tartt showed not only his versatility but also his coverage skills.
He came away with an impressive 86.4 pass-coverage grade to go along with his 85.7 overall grade on PFF. He was also tied for fourth in run-stops among safeties.
These are all attributes of an elite safety in the making.
The sky is only the limit for the Samford product, as he will be in the same system for a second year for the first time in his career. And with the addition of three-time first-team All-Pro Richard Sherman, the ascension of second-year players like Adrian Colbert and Ahkello Witherspoon, Tartt should get more opportunities to pick off the quarterback.
