Pittsburgh Steelers May Be All-In On One Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of some help at wide receiver after trading Diontae Johnson last month.

Right now, the Steelers have George Pickens and not a whole lot else at the position. Not surprisingly, many are expecting Pittsburgh to select a wide out with the 20th pick of the NFL Draft this Thursday.

Apparently, the Steelers are already very impressed by a certain receiver: LSU star Brian Thomas, according to Dan Brugler of NFLDraftScout.com.

Thomas was not even the best receiver on his own team, as Malik Nabers was the No. 1 receiver for the Tigers in 2023. Nabers is expected to fly off the board in the top 10.

That doesn’t mean Thomas isn’t an impressive prospect, however.

Thomas hauled in 68 receptions for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns this past season in what represented a breakout campaign for the 6-foot-5 prospect.

Not only does Thomas have terrific size, but he also ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine, so his physical talent is undeniable.

The Steelers have more needs than just wide receiver. They also need some help along their offensive line in particular. However, with Pittsburgh revamping its quarterback room this offseason, bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, it needs to add some weapons.

Of course, the Steelers can always take a receiver in the second round, as there are plenty of good wide outs available in this draft class. But because they are in such dire need of depth behind Pickens, they may have no choice but to select one in the first round in order to minimize their risk.

We’ll see what direction Pittsburgh decides to go on Thursday, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if it rolls with a receiver, and that receiver may very well end up being Thomas.
