REPORT: Miami Dolphins Showing Major Interest In Wide Receiver

You wouldn’t think the Miami Dolphins would need a wide receiver, as they already have a dynamic duo of Tyreek Hill and Jayden Waddle. However, they are apparently interested in adding another weapon to their aerial attack with the 21st pick in the NFL Draft.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Dolphins are interested in University of Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Worthy is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns.

The 20-year-old arrived at Texas in 2021 and immediately made a significant impact, catching 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 scores. The following year, Worthy snared 60 balls for 760 yards while reaching the end zone nine times.

Not only was Worthy very productive throughout his entire collegiate career, but he also set an NFL record by running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine.

The question is, why would Miami use a first-round pick on a wide out when it clearly has so many other needs on its roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball?

Breer notes that the Dolphins could view the speedy Worthy as an “off ramp” to Hill over the next couple of years. In other words, if Worthy steps in and plays well, Miami could ultimately let Hill go in the near future.

But the thing is, the Dolphins lost numerous key defensive players to free agency, so it would seem more appropriate for them to select a defender rather than a receiver in Round 1.

We’ll see what Miami decides to do on Thursday.
