Could the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers hook up on a trade before or during the NFL Draft?

Marcus Mosher of Pro Football Focus says that the Jets could represent a potential destination for Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth, who is entering the final year of his deal.

Mosher adds that Pittsburgh has not expressed any unhappiness with Freiermuth, but it may not want to pay him beyond 2025, especially considering that the team selected fellow tight end Darnell Washington in the third round of last year’s draft.

The question is, would New York actually be interested?

Gang Green already has Tyler Conklin, who is probably one of the most underrated players in football. In 2023, Conklin hauled in 61 receptions for 621 yards, and in his first season with the Jets in 2022, he caught 58 passes for 552 yards and five touchdowns.

As a matter of fact, this past year, Conklin was more productive than Freiermuth, who snared 32 balls for 308 yards and a couple of scores in an injury-riddled campaign.

Freiermuth, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The 25-year-old played in 16 games during his rookie season, registering 60 catches for 497 yards and seven touchdowns. He then enjoyed a very productive sophomore campaign, finishing with 63 grabs for 732 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

We’ll see if Pittsburgh tries to move Freiermuth this week and if New York attempts to make a play for him.
