Former NFL QB Rips Into Jets About Zach Wilson Failure

Zach Wilson, New York Jets

The New York Jets traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos on Monday, ending a miserable three-year run for Wilson in the Big Apple.

But former NFL quarterback and current analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks that the Jets failed Wilson; not the other way around.

Orlovsky says that New York made a mistake by starting Wilson right off the bat during his rookie campaign in spite of his obviously mechanical issues.

He states that while some onus falls on Wilson as a player, the Jets ultimately set Wilson up for failure.

While Wilson may very well have busted in any situation, it’s hard to argue with Orlvosky’s overall point. New York did not exactly make things easy for Wilson.

There is also something to be said for the Jets’ inability to develop quarterbacks over the last several decades. Wilson is just another name on the long list of signal-callers who have failed in New York. As a matter of fact, just before Wilson, there was Sam Darnold.

Wilson, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was selected by the Jets with the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Throughout his tenure with Gang Green, Wilson went 12-21 as a starter and accumulated 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

In 2023, he threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven picks while completing 60.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 77.2 in 12 games and 11 starts.

We’ll see if the Broncos can dig deep and get something positive out of Zach Wilson or if the young signal-caller is destined to be a career backup.
