Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Gets Brutally Honest About Future

The Dallas Cowboys have reached a stalemate with quarterback Dak Prescott in contract negotiations, which could spell trouble for his future with the franchise.

Apparently, Prescott is already envisioning his future as a member of another team.

“I’m not going to say I fear being here or not. I don’t fear either situation, to be candid with you,” Prescott said Friday from the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I love this game and love to play and love to better myself as a player and my teammates around me. Right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys, it’s where I want to be, and that’s where I am, and that’s the focus. And after the season we’ll see where we’re at and if the future holds that. And if not, we’ll go from there.”

So essentially, Prescott is hoping to remain with the Cowboys, but if that ends up not being the case, he has already made his peace with it.

Prescott is preparing to enter the final year of his deal and is reportedly asking for $60 million annually, a price Dallas is obviously very reluctant to pay.

The Cowboys seem comfortable with letting Prescott play out 2024 and then test free agency next March. They seem to be banking on the fact that no other team will offer Prescott $60 million per year, which would then allow Dallas to re-sign Prescott at a more economical price.

Prescott is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes to go along with 4,516 yards and nine interceptions. He made his third Pro Bowl appearance and finished second in MVP voting for his efforts.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He has been Dallas’ starting quarterback ever since.

We’ll see if the Cowboys are able to get something done with Dak Prescott in the coming months. If not, it should be a very interesting year in Dallas.
