The Philadelphia Eagles own the 22nd pick in the NFL Draft, but they apparently aren’t satisfied with their draft positioning.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are trying to move up in the draft and have been placing other calls to teams ahead of Day 1 on Thursday.

Philadelphia is believed to be targeting a cornerback with its pick, which does not come as much of a surprise given that the club finished 31st in passing defense this past season.

Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell is the top-ranked cornerback in this year’s draft class, so Philly could very well be setting its sights on him with the selection.

The Eagles are coming off of a nightmarish 2023 campaign. Well, at least a nightmarish second half.

Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start this past season, but ended up losing five of its last six games to finish 11-6. It became the first team in NFL history to not win 12 games after winning 10 of its first 11. Philly then went on to lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The Eagles were fairly busy in free agency, with their marquee signing being running back Saquon Barkley. It was an uncharacteristic move for a Philadelphia franchise that typically avoids paying halfbacks big money, but evidently, it seemed to think signing Barkley was necessary for an offense that sputtered down the stretch of 2023.

Philly owns a pair of second-round draft picks in addition to the 22nd overall selection, so it certainly has enough ammunition to make a big trade in order to move up.

We’ll see if the Eagles are able to get anything done in the coming days.
